Dokuro-chan: she’s no angel

Earlier in the week, I was called upon to check out an episode of a wild anime series called 撲殺天使ドクロちゃん (Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, better known to U.S. audiences as Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan) for a blurb I was writing in our News department (Death of the Month, as it turns out.) I already knew from reading about it in the past that it had kind of a wacky premise—I mean, come on now, an angel is dispatched to protect an unsuspecting young lad from other angels who are trying to kill him, except that she keeps losing her temper and killing him by accident and then resurrecting him? And all this because allegedly in the future he’s supposed to grow up to be some kind of perverted—yeah, I dunno, my head is spinning too.
Anyway, the show is absolutely preposterous, in this blogger’s opinion; in fact, if I remember correctly, the first death of protagonist Sakura occurred approximately 90 seconds into the first episode. What spurred this on? After a long, hard day at school, poor Sakura sauntered into his own room to find Dokuro in the midst of changing (uh…what? why? Never mind, not important). Anyway, the embarrassment was apparently enough to provoke her to just straight-up murder him. Off with his head, just like that. Then she feels really bad about it and brings him back to life. All this in a matter of like 15 seconds. And then a few more times, with some kind of zany plot interspersed, over the course of about 22 minutes. Apart from that, I’m pretty much at a loss for words, but if you want to fill in the blanks on your own, Media Blasters licensed the series back in September so feel free to track it down.
